Religious Fundamentalists Are A Strange Breed
November 29, 2007
I came across this disturbing website this morning on my daily rounds through the inter-world. It is a site dedicated to people who are looking for someone to marry their daughter. At first I thought, “this can’t be a serious site, can it?” Another part of me thinks it’s DateLine NBC and Scott Hansen’s To Catch A Predator. But after further investigation, this is what I have found.
As I went through this site, page by page, I noticed that there were actual engagements proposed and accepted. The site doesn’t allow you to actually see the young girls, just a blurry picture (—>) where you can distinguish between light or dark hair. And when I say young, I mean 13-18 years old. That is a bit left of center if you ask me.
Here is a quick description of their services…
Marry Our Daughter is an introduction service assisting those following the Biblical tradition of arranging marriages for their daughters.
I had no idea they started pawning off their daughters at such a young age. And what really caught me was the do’s and don’ts page for proposing to the girl of choice.
Here is a few quick excerpts…
Dos
Be romantic! This is a marriage proposal, not a business transaction
Describe what kind of life you would be able to provide for a wife
Don’ts
Do not be sexual or sexually explicit in any way.
Do not specify your age, except in a range such as ā20s, 30s, 40s, 50sā etc. (That’s creepy)
Do not propose to multiple Daughters or all your proposals will be rejected.
Not surprising, there are more don’ts than dos. But, what the fuck?!?!?!?! You really can find anything on the web. To see more of this site click here.
And this site got me to a new Have You Ever…question.
Have you ever…participated in on-line dating? Discuss.
