Woman Loses Limbs In Labor

February 7, 2007

Yeah, so I really don’t know how to begin this next post. I don’t know how to begin this post because it’s pretty fucking outrageous and I really can’t even begin to imagine that this could have actually happened. Ironically enough, it happened in Florida, of all places. They just can’t get anything right. So since I don’t know a good way to address it, I’ll just throw it out there for you.

A woman, about 9 months ago gave birth to a little boy at Orlando Regional South Seminole; was then transferred to Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando where her arms and legs were amputated. She was told she had streptococcus, a flesh eating bacteria, and toxic shock syndrome. Believe it or not, that was all they told her. Never even got into the fact that she had absolutely no limbs. Apparently, they sent some letter stating that the woman, Claudia Mejia, would have to file a lawsuit against them in order to get any more information. Mejia was stated saying, “I want to know what happened. I went to deliver my baby and I came out like this”. Seems like a pretty reasonable request from a woman who lost all 4 limbs. If you don’t already think this hospital has the biggest set of nuts by telling this woman she has to sue them in order to find out what happend, Florida just passed a law called, “The Patients Right To Know About Adverse Medical Incidents Act”. When the law is named ‘Patients Right To Know,’ it seems like the hospital should give it up. What hard asses.

A little foot note…her husband said he loves her, and will stand by her side. What a fucking guy. How many men would do that? Here is a picture of Ms. Mejia leaving the hospital. The picture actually pisses me off to the point where I almost want to start up some sort of collection in her name. Leave it in the comments.

Wow. All I can say is wow. Wow wow wow.

Ok so the hospital is obviously trying to cover their asses, since the reason she has to sue is because she’s asking if another person on the same floor had streptococcus, and if she wanted to know that it would be violating another patients privacy.

Hmm ok, so that’s quite a yes, there was, and I’d be quick to sue them after I got that.

yeah, my guess is that someone, well just didn’t do their job. A nurse or other hosital personel was probably suppose to quarrentine the individual with streptococcus, didn’t, but reported that it was done. There you have it…I am losing confidence in the ability of our country’s medical health departments. Maybe just that one for now.
